2008/09 customer tariffs

Gippsland Water ’s tariffs have been determined following an extensive review process conducted by the Essential Services Commission (ESC). This review process commenced in July 2007 with the public release of Gippsland Water ’s five year water plan, the ESC’s draft decision in March 2008 and concluded with the ESC’s final decision in mid-June 2008. The review process allowed for our customers and stakeholders to make comments and submissions to the ESC about the proposed water plan. After completion of the review, the Essential Services Commission has now confirmed that residential customer tariffs will increase by 71% over the five year period (excluding any CPI increases). This increase will apply to the water service availability charge, the water volumetric charge per thousand litres, and the wastewater service availability charge.

The new tariffs will be applied from 1 July 2008 to all water and wastewater service charges, and the increases to the water volumetric charge will be applied pro rata from 1 July up until the meter read. Water consumed before 1 July 2008 will be charged at the 2007/08 tariff.

The increases are a result of significant capital investment to improve service reliability, water supply security, and ensure the delivery of water and wastewater services to a population base of over 130,000.

For customers who may be experiencing difficulties paying their water and wastewater bills; Gippsland Water has a hardship policy and many flexible payment options available. Please click here to view the options available.

General tariff information

Gippsland Water Accounts are issued every four months and the determined charges are set on an annual basis that is regulated and approved by the Essential Services Commission.

Where a water and or wastewater main passes through or fronts a property and is capable of providing a service to the property, the property is deemed as being serviced and the applicable charges are applied.  Unconnected properties pay a minimum availability charge.

Standard Residential Charges may include:

  •  Water Service Availability Charges – this is a contribution toward the cost of providing the water supply to the property and is charged according to the size of the service.
  • Wastewater Availability Charges – this is a contribution toward the cost of providing the wastewater service to the property.
  • Water Usage Charges or Notional Charges – where a property is metered, all water usage charges are levied at a rate per kilolitre. Where there is no meter on a connected property a notional usage charge equivalent to the cost of 240 kilolitres of water per annum is charged.

Depending on what services are available to your property other possible charges may include:

  • Fire Service Charges
  • Wastewater Volumetric Charges
  • Trade Waste Charges

The above services are GST free.

Notification of any changes will be advertised in local newspapers as well as on, or with, the first bill after the decision to vary the changes has been made.

Please refer to our detailed Tariff page for full tariff charges.

Note: All tariffs are written in dollar terms. For instance 0.68 is 68 cents, and 2.0512 is $2.0512.
