Gippsland Water and Gippsland Water Factory school education program

Gippsland Water and the Gippsland Water Factory have developed a school education program with lessons and activities that comply with the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) and are suitable for primary students of all ages. Topics covered include:

  • The water cycle  Students help make their own water filter after learning about the water treatment process
  • Wastewater
  • Water conservation
  • Catchments

There are a number of practical and interactive activities for each topic and these can be geared to the different grade levels. The activities and lessons are presented by enthusiastic Gippsland Water and Gippsland Water Factory education officers, however some can also be provided for teachers to present themselves if preferred.

Water - Learn it! Live it!

This comprehensive program for both primary and secondary schools has recently been redeveloped by Melbourne Water and other metropolitan water businesses. Water - Learn it! Live it! shows how schools can actively implement water conservation and water education across the curriculum, with the aim of reducing water consumption and improving water management across the school community.

This program enables schools to tailor and develop their own programs and initiatives to engage students and the school community in water conservation and education.

Education and awareness is essential to achieve the change in attitudes and behaviours needed to reach sustainability. We recognise that our schools play a vital role in encouraging life-long learning and behavioural change.

This resource is designed to support and guide schools in developing their own interesting and engaging programs to empower students, teachers and the school community to discover why it is necessary to live sustainably with water.
