Gippsland Water recently completed over three quarters of a million dollars in capital improvement works along its main wastewater transfer system - the Regional Outfall Sewer (ROS) - to help improve the longevity of this critical piece of infastructure. The Regional Outfall Sewer is a gravity-fed wastewater transportation system built more than 50 years ago that receives domestic and industrial wastewater from towns and major industries in the Latrobe Valley.

The Essential Services Commission (ESC) led public forum was held to discuss the proposals outlined in its draft decision handed down on 28 March.

Gippsland Water is encouraging its customers to be more proactive about identifying leaks in their homes to help prevent water wastage and as a consequence a high water bill. Gippsland Water has a customer service process in place that notifies customers if their meter read is abnormally high, and then works with them to identify possible leaks on their property.

Gippsland Water has assisted a local retirement village to reduce its water consumption by more than three million litres a year. The savings are due to changes implemented at Traralgon's Mayfair Gardens after it took part in the savewater! efficiency service (SWES) program, managed by Gippsland Water.

Gippsland Water is pleased to report its newest water treatment plant has been in successful operation for over one year without incident. The $2.6 million Erica Rawson Water Treatment Plant was commissioned in November 2006 and treats up to one million litres of water each day from local waterway, Trigger Creek.
