Professionals share knowledge at recent Land Development information night

More than 55 people from a range of professions recently attended a Land Development Information Night with Gippsland Water.

Gippsland Water hosted the Land Development Night to provide information on its role in land development, and meet with those who work in the field, and discuss options to improve information and service processes. Attending the session were many Melbourne companies who work on residential housing on industrial projects in the Gippsland region.

"The information evening was aimed at professionals involved in all areas of land development including developers, pipelayers, design consultants and surveyors. We invited people who need to liaise with Gippsland Water at some stage during the planning and construction of new developments," Gippsland Water's Team Leader Land Development Jenie Bates said.

Representatives from Gippsland Water's Land Development and Field Operations team were in attendance, providing an opportunity for informal discussion between industry representatives and the water authority.

"The presentation on the night outlined Gippsland Water's responsibilities and expectations, as well as the responsibilities of the developers and consultants," Ms Bates said.

"We also covered the process from the planning stage right through to project completion, protocol for working in confined spaces, design changes and industry codes to follow. A Gippsland Water General Manager also discussed the status of the water supply."

This was the second Land Development Night organised by Gippsland Water, with the feedback being positive.

"Information nights like these allow us to provide a focal point and to identify ways to make the process easier for both the developers and the water authority and facilitate understanding of each others' needs," Ms Bates said.

Industry representatives who attended will also be involved in Gippsland Water's major review of the Water Services Association of Australia's sewer and water codes, which is being undertaken shortly.
