Latrobe Valley Racing Club Water Conservation Plan

Gippsland Water has entered into a cooperative agreement with Latrobe Valley Racing Club Inc.(LVRC) allowing it to prepare the Glenview Park racing surface for its Traralgon Cup meeting on Sunday December 9.

LVRC has prepared a Water Conservation Plan which enables it to water the track leading up to cup day whilst continuing to make significant savings to offset the water being used. Gippsland Water has approved the Water Conservation Plan on the condition that LVRC submit a Water Management Action Plan (WaterMAP) for its operations throughout the year as part of the Victorian Government’s WaterMAPs program. The WaterMAPs program is mandatory for all customers who consume in excess of 10,000,000 litres or more of potable drinking water a year. Whilst LVRC are not required to participate in the Victorian Government WaterMAPs program, LVRC has committed to develop a WaterMAP with the view to implementing further water efficiency initiatives at the Glenview Park site.

Gippsland Water recognises the importance of racing in the region and is pleased to have been able to assist the club to continue to deliver the economic, social and community benefits associated with racing.

Gippsland Water’s Managing Director, John Mitchell, said “Gippsland Water has worked closely with the LVRC throughout the development of its Water Conservation Plan to ensure the impact on water resources is minimised,” said Mr Mitchell.

“We have been impressed by the professional nature and leadership that the LVRC have demonstrated throughout the process, and its willingness to develop a WaterMAP,” Mr Mitchell said.

“Our task as a community is to accept the challenges presented by drought and achieve the desired result though innovation, leadership and collaboration”.

LVRC Club Manager, Brendan Blackshaw, believes that the club's agreement with Gippsland Water will enable track staff to ensure an even track surface for the cup day meeting.

“The committee is committed to responsible citizenship and undertakes to seek ongoing improvement in its operations in order to conserve water and protect the environment. The club further undertakes to work closely with Gippsland Water to proactively identify and implement future water saving initiatives,” said Mr Blackshaw.
