Gippsland Water has begun commissioning its new $2.2 million desludging facility at the Warragul Water Treatment Plant marking the first time the water corporation has used a centrifuge system at one of its treatment plants. This new system will collect waste in the water treatment process and thicken it prior to transporting it to Gippsland Water's Soil and Organic Recycling Facility at Dutson Downs.

A renowned water industry expert from the USA has recently shared his expertise with Gippsland Water about new and innovative ways to collect, treat and reuse wastewater. Dr George Tchobanoglous, a professor from the University of California and a recognised world expert on water and wastewater systems, has visited Australia by invitation of the Environment Protection Authority.

Gippsland Water is undertaking an investigation into the Neerim South wastewater network following what is believed to be a series of illegal discharges into the town's sewer system. Gippsland Water is working to repair the outlet pipe in the treated water storage basin at the Warragul Water Treatment Plant, which is believed to have broken as a result of degradation caused by normal operational activity. To enable Gippsland Water staff to undertake the repairs, the storage basin will need to be emptied completely.

Gippsland Water customers in Churchill and Yinnar have benefited from $170,000 worth of upgrades to their water reticulation system. Gippsland Water has completed upgrades to three chlorinators in the Churchill and Yinnar reticulation system over the past 18 months to improve the quality of the water delivered to customers in these towns.
