Gippsland Water has begun commissioning its new $2.2 million desludging facility at the Warragul Water Treatment Plant marking the first time the water corporation has used a centrifuge system at one of its treatment plants. This new system will collect waste in the water treatment process and thicken it prior to transporting it to Gippsland Water's Soil and Organic Recycling Facility at Dutson Downs.

Gippsland Water welcomes the Essential Services Commission's (ESC) final decision on its Water Plan 2008-2013 which was announced today following an extensive year-long ESC-led review process. The final decision is a major milestone in the review conducted by the independent economic regulator for the Victorian water industry, and secures major infrastructure projects, improvements to water supply reliability, and operational expenditure to enable the corporation to continue to deliver high quality services to the region.

Gippsland Water has embraced sustainable waste management with an Environmental Management System (EMS) for its newly completed Soil and Organic Recycling Facility (SORF) recently accredited to international best practice standard. An EMS is an effective tool that is used to identify, manage and reduce an organisation's impact on the environment and generate reports on its environmental performance.
