Water supplies for Gippsland Water are drawn from a variety of sources including local reservoirs, streams, waterways and ground water supplies.
The raw water quality across the region is quite varied as it is supplied from a variety of sources. Each raw supply undergoes varying levels of treatment from disinfection only to full treatment (coagulation, flocculation filtration and disinfection) before being delivered to the customer. Current capital works will see all raw water supplies undergo full treatment by the end of 2006.
An extension of Gippsland Water's service is satisfying the water and wastewater needs of some of Victoria's largest industries. Our major client base includes leading national and multinational companies, which is a unique situation for a non-metropolitan Victorian water authority.
Gippsland Water catchment and waterway management relates mainly to the areas we use for water and wastewater supply services. The majority of catchment management and waterway issues are covered by the local Catchment Management Authority. Other functions outside Gippsland Water's scope are stormwater, rainwater and septic tank management. They are the responsibility of your local council. |
