Loch Sport Sewerage Scheme

Background of project

State Government approval of the Loch Sport Sewerage Scheme was given on 13 September 2010. This approval follows a land capability assessment to determine the most suitable wastewater solution for the town.

We held community consultation sessions in Loch Sport over the Christmas holidays to provide information about the scheme.

Whitehead & Associates Environmental Consultants undertook a septic tank system audit and land capability assessment to identify areas of high environmental and public health need, and check the ability of local soil to handle various waste management options.

The land capability assessment also checked:

How well existing on-site wastewater management systems, including septic systems and aerated wastewater treatment systems, are working.
The quality of surface water and groundwater.
The capability of land in residential areas to safely manage treated effluent.

Existing on-site wastewater systems on 10 per cent of properties (approximately 150) were inspected by Whiteheads & Associates in January 2010. Work also included the analysis of soil and water samples, which helped form the business case which was submitted to the Gippsland Water Board in June 2010.
