Water Restrictions

There are two programs we run to make sure water is used sensibly: Permanent Water Saving Rules and Water Restrictions.

Permanent Water Saving Rules are simple things everyone can do to make sure they are not wasting water. If there are no Water Restrictions in place, you are on Permanent Water Saving Rules. There are four main rules that apply to your home:

  • Always use a trigger nozzle on hoses. You can wash your car or water your garden or lawn with a hose fitted with a trigger nozzle at any time.
  • You can only use automatic or manual watering systems from 6pm to 10am daily.
  • You can’t hose paved areas.
  • You need to send us an application to fill your pool or spa if over 2000 litres.

After we have looked at the amount of water we need to supply our customers, and compare that with how much water is available, we may need to put our customers on Water Restrictions.

There are four levels of Water Restrictions, and different towns can be on different levels, depending on where they get their water from.

If you need to use water differently to what is allowed under the rules or Water Restrictions, you need to ask for an exemption to be allowed to use water in a different way.
