Traralgon family win local shopping voucher

A Traralgon family has become the latest to receive a $250 shopping voucher by simply paying its water bill by Direct Debit.

Jennifer and Martin Sinz will be able to use the Shop Traralgon Gift Card at any of the more than 30 participating stores in Traralgon.

“We’re long standing users of Direct Debit,” said Martin, “It’s convenient and helps to avoid the large bill that you need to pay in one hit. Stretching out the payments in fortnightly chunks is certainly a lot easier” concluded Mr. Sinz.

Gippsland Water has been running the competition to encourage customers to use Direct Debit since July with a good response from customers.

“We’ve been encouraging customers to use Direct Debit as it’s convenient for them and also actually saves Gippsland Water money, which we can return to customers as well” said General Manager of Customer Service and Communication, Paul Clark.

“We’ve formed a partnership with a number of the local Business Associations across the region and we’re very pleased to not only encourage customers to use Direct Debit but to support our local family owned stores as well” added Mr Clark.

Treasurer of the Traralgon Chamber of Commerce and Industry Debbie Grist said the recently introduced ‘Shop Traralgon Gift Cards’ are designed to encourage locals to shop where they live rather than on-line or in Melbourne.

“Every regional centre faces competition from big cities or internet shopping to keep customers. We have a great range of family owned businesses in Traralgon which we hope locals will support through this scheme.”

Each month a Direct Debit customers name is drawn from across the region and then presented with the shopping voucher from their local Chamber of Commerce or comparable group.

“So far, we’ve had winners drawn from Traralgon, Moe, Warragul, Morwell and Yinnar. Hopefully the computer will ‘pick’ a customer from east of our region before the scheme finishes in June,” said Mr Clark.

Gippsland Water customers can make the switch on-line at and begin seeing the convenience of a Direct Debit scheme.

Shop Traralgon Gift Cards are available on line at, the Seymour Street News Agency Traralgon and Tralalgon News and Lotto, Franklin Street.
