Choosing tap for a healthy Gippsland lifestyle
“Sip sip” and “Choose Tap” will be the buzz words for Gippslanders over the month of October as water corporation Gippsland Water and peak sporting body Gippsport join together to turn people onto tap water.
“We love tap water and we want people to share that love,” said General Manager of Customer Services and Communications at Gippsland Water Paul Clark.
“It’s cheap, it’s clean and it’s good for you, so what’s not to love,” added Paul, who is delighted to announce the partnership between the two organisations to promote the benefits of drinking water.
Gippslanders from local government, sport, media and entertainment circles will take the challenge to not only substitute tap water for coffee, sugary drinks or alcohol over October but also convince friends, family and colleagues to do the same.
“As the weather warms up, we thought it was a good time to get the message out there that drinking tap water forms a major part of a healthy community,” said Chris Stanlake, Program Co-ordinator with Gippsport.
“We see a lot of people who are active in sport reach for a sports drink or even a carbonated drink after exercise to re-hydrate when the best thing they can do is ‘sip-sip’ and ‘Choose Tap’,” added Chris.
Through October, the 15 ‘Choose Tap for October’ ambassadors will be changing their habits around drinking tap water and sharing their stories via social media.
Mayor of the Wellington Shire Councillor Carolyn Crossley says she is looking forward to personally taking the challenge over October.
“By adopting the “Choose Tap” message it’s a simple thing to do which will make a positive difference to a healthy lifestyle. I hope others in the community will join in this initiative and make a start towards taking the healthy and sustainable choice and spreading the word throughout our community here in Gippsland.”
