Mowers and meters: not a good mix
Gippsland Water is reminding customers to keep an eye out for their water meter when they dust the lawnmower off for its first run of the season.
“We’ve had a number of calls from customers who in their enthusiasm to keep the lawn under control have clipped the water meter leading to a loss of water as well as time spent repairing it,” said Manager Customer Service and Communications, Paul Clark.
Over the last weekend the Gippsland Water call centre took several calls from landholders after they had run over the meter.
The calls lead to Gippsland Water field staff having to attend and the charge for that attendance ending up with the landholder.
“We’d suggest customers be aware of where their meter is prior to mowing and maybe clearing that small area with a trimmer prior to getting the mower into action. A small amount of time spent up front can save a lot of time and money if the meter is impacted,” concluded Mr Clark.
Customers who are unsure of where their water meter is can call 1800 050 500 and speak to the Gippsland Water Service Centre who can give guidance on water meter locations.
