Help available to customers struggling with post-Christmas bills
While extra expenses over the festive season and summer holidays may cause some strain on the family budget, Gippsland Water is reminding customers of the many easy ways to pay their water and sewerage bills as they come in.
“We understand that this time of year can add pressure to the family finances, and we are encouraging customers who are having difficulties paying their bill, to call us in the first instance,” said Paul Clark, General Manager Customer Service and Communications.
“The experienced team at our local Customer Contact Centre can help customers arrange a payment plan that works for them and lessen that post-Christmas stress of receiving a bill.
“Currently, more than 8,600 customers are using Direct Debit as a way of paying their accounts. Direct Debit is an easy way to make sure your bills are paid on time,” Mr Clark said.
“People paying by Direct Debit can make regular, smaller payments to reduce the amount owing when their bill is due. It’s easy, convenient and manageable for customers.”
Customers can sign up for Direct Debit online at: www.gippswater.com.au/directdebit.
“For customers who receive a pension, regular payments towards water and sewerage bills can be made on the customer’s behalf by Centrelink using the Centrepay system. Once again it’s super easy to set up via our Contact Centre,” Mr Clark said.
Gippsland Water staff can refer customers to an independent service that provides free financial counselling. Customers can confidentially discuss their financial situation, receive advice and access support services.
“The important thing is we don’t want customers to struggle in silence and stress about their bill payment. If a bill arrives which is going to put the family budget under enormous strain, we’re encouraging customers to ring our Customer Contact Centre and talk to one of the team.
“The bill isn’t going to go away, but we can definitely help customers manage their payments without breaking the bank,” Mr Clark concluded.Customers can contact Gippsland Water on FREECALL 1800 050 500 to discuss any aspect of their water bill, including payment options.
