Water storages now full despite dry start to 2017
Gippsland Water storages at the Moondarra and Blue Rock reservoirs are now full despite the dry start to 2017.
The Latrobe system, made up of the Moondarra Reservoir and Gippsland Water’s share of Blue Rock Reservoir, is at capacity following above average rainfall in the area over the past two months.
Gippsland Water Managing Director Sarah Cumming said the Latrobe system’s water supply is in a great position.
"Our Latrobe system supplies water to towns from Yarragon to Rosedale and Boolarra to Cowwarr," Ms Cumming said.
"Customers in this area can feel confident that their water supplies are in the best position possible heading into summer.
"Despite the first half of 2017 being especially dry, the wet start to spring, together with careful management of our water resources, has allowed the Latrobe system to fill prior to summer."
"We’ve successfully managed our water resources and timed the transfer of water from Blue Rock to the Moondarra Reservoir to reach capacity in readiness for summer when water usage is higher," Ms Cumming concluded.
Gippsland Water will publish its Annual Water Outlook on its website in December. This will include a summer outlook for all Gippsland Water supply systems.
