Work to start on Warragul CBD water mains replacement
Gippsland Water will commence work this month to replace ageing water mains in Warragul CBD as part of a $2 million upgrade program. The work will involve removing outdated main connections which will significantly reduce the impact on CBD customers if a break occurs.
Managing director Sarah Cumming said the work would start in January and is expected to be completed by November.
“We were keen to make sure these works didn’t unnecessarily disrupt business during the busy Christmas trading periods,” Ms Cumming said.
Ms Cumming said works will be undertaken in three stages covering parts of Alfred, Queen and Victoria Streets.
“Most of the works will be done using underground boring rather than open trenches, at night, to minimise disruption to CBD trading,” Ms Cumming said.
The main contractor for the work, Interflow Pty Ltd, has extensive experience in underground works within retail and business areas.
The major section of the works cover Victoria Street from Napier Street to McDonalds, crossing the street to finish near Woolworths. The other section covers Alfred Street from Trinca Lane to the north side of the roundabout in Queen Street.
Ms Cumming urged pedestrians and motorists to take care near construction areas, including any night works.
