Final stage of project to secure Morwell’s water supply underway
Gippsland Water is securing Morwell’s water supply for the future with a $1.1 million upgrade of one of its two Morwell water basins.
Managing director Sarah Cumming said the relining of the Buckley’s Hill drinking water basin, off Comans Street in Morwell, would improve water reliability for the township.
“This upgrade is the final stage of a larger plan to shore up Morwell’s water supply for the next 30 years,” Ms Cumming said.
“Over the past few years we’ve undertaken extensive works at Morwell’s second basin, Ridge Reservoir, so that it can be a back-up water storage and continue to supply water to the town while we upgrade the Buckley’s Hill basin.
“These works also allow flexibility for any future works or maintenance.”
Ms Cumming said the upgrade, which commenced in May, involved removing the existing basin lining and floating cover, doing some minor work to the basin, and installing a new liner and cover.
“While these works are taking place, customers are being supplied from the Ridge Reservoir and their service will not be disrupted.”
Works are due to be completed and the basin back online before the peak summer period.
