Warragul CBD water upgrade delivered
Gippsland Water has completed a $2 million upgrade to water mains in Warragul CBD.
Managing director Sarah Cumming said the works were crucial to ensure a secure water supply to Warragul into the future.
“Warragul is growing rapidly as a residential and business hub, and reliable water infrastructure is important as the town grows.
“To ensure reliability, we needed to upgrade water mains through the CBD,” Ms Cumming said.
Major activity involved replacing outdated and ageing main connections and removing a water main under the Gippsland rail line.
“These improvements significantly reduce the likely impact on CBD customers if a break occurs along the pipeline,” Ms Cumming said.
The completed upgrade covering parts of Alfred, Queen and Victoria Streets started in January and finished ahead of schedule.
“We’re pleased that we were able to avoid any serious impacts on CBD businesses with most work undertaken at night,” Ms Cumming continued.
“We’re grateful for the assistance we received from Baw Baw Shire Council, businesses and community members in planning this important project.
“We’d also like to thank the Warragul community for their cooperation and understanding while these essential works were completed.” Ms Cumming concluded.
