Moe Apex receives community donation for art festival
Moe Apex has received Gippsland Water’s $5,000 community donation to deliver a two day art festival in March.
The donation follows Gippsland Water’s promise as part of their guaranteed service levels to donate $5,000 to a local community initiative as compensation, after the precautionary boil water alert in Moe and surrounds in February 2020.
Moe Apex President Jakey Sting Rae said he was thrilled with the news.
“We’re really looking forward to bringing the Show Me Some Art Festival to life.
“The event will be great fun and it will give artists to show their artwork in a festival atmosphere – something we’ve all been missing in recent times,” Mr Sting Rae said.
The event will be held on 27 and 28 March and feature talented musicians and an arts and crafts market.
Local artists will also produce artwork to brighten up the Moe Yallourn Rail Trail, remove graffiti and encourage locals and visitors to use the trail.
Mr Sting Rae said he hopes the festival will help improve the spirits and mental health of artists and the local community.
“We’ll also use the opportunity to raise funds for mental health through a colour fun run and monster raffle.”
Moe Apex has partnered with Bechaz Art Designs and Latrobe City Council to deliver the festival and we’re also collaborating with Newborough Men’s Shed, Moe Lions Club, Moe Art Society, Moartz, Neighbourhood House and primary and secondary schools.
Managing director Sarah Cumming said Moe Apex’s art festival received strong support from the community.
“We asked the community to help us decide which community group should receive the donation by completing a short online survey, and they were keen to support this local event.
“Thanks to our customers in Hernes Oak, Moe, Moe South, Newborough, Trafalgar East, Westbury, Yallourn, Yallourn Heights and Yallourn North for taking part.”
