Frequently asked questions

These questions will help you with your Community Support Program - Financial Support application. Please read them before you start your application. Community Support Program - financial support

The community support program offers up to $5,000 funding for local community groups, projects and events within our service area, to focus on water conservation and education, the local environment, or public health and community wellbeing.

Already, the program has allowed recipients to educate local students on waterway health and install rain water tanks and irrigation systems.We offer various types of sponsorship through our Community Support Program, including financial support, in-kind support, and access to portable water fountains.

Our Community Support Program lets us invest in programs within our service area that support the wellbeing of our community. We want to encourage health and sustainability through support for local groups, projects and events. We are guided by the following principles:

  • Accessibility: We will support access to tap water for all.
  • Equity: We will target areas of demonstrated need.
  • Diversity: We will support participation of women and people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Empowerment: We will promote opportunities for our customers to make healthy choices.

We welcome the opportunity to partner with and support our community for projects, events and activities with a focus on:

  • Water
  • Water conservation
  • Water and wastewater education
  • The environment
  • Public health
  • Community wellbeing

Sponsorship and financial support will only be provided to not-for-profit organisations within Gippsland Water's service area who have an Australian Business Number (ABN) or are an incorporated body.

Your project or activity must be located or held within our region: View our service area map.

Preference will be given to applications that meet at least one of the six focus areas:

  • Water
  • Water conservation
  • Water and wastewater education
  • The environment (e.g. research, community education, volunteers, marine ecology, wetlands, and endangered species)
  • Public health
  • Community wellbeing

Preference will be given to applications that:

  • Align with our objective of supporting and benefiting the wellbeing of our community.
  • Align with our vision for a healthy and sustainable Gippsland.
  • Be open or available to the wider community.

Successful applicants will also be required to acknowledge our support and show how they will do this. This can take a number of forms including:

  • Media acknowledgment in print articles and through television or radio exposure.
  • Placement of Gippsland Water logo on posters and marketing materials.
  • Signage at event/on site reflecting Gippsland Water’s support.
  • Acknowledgment via sponsorship recipients’ social media channels.
  • Acknowledgment on day of event by MC (if applicable).
  • Post event acknowledgment in press and/or public notices.
  • Invitation for Gippsland Water representatives to attend the event or oversee project, and take photos for promotional use.

Successful applicants will also need to complete an Acquittal Form.

A total of $15,000 is available through the Community Support Program.

You may apply for an amount up to $5,000.

Funding must be spent in the 2019-20 financial period.

A single project, event, activity or program will only be considered for one round of funding at a time.

Applications open on Monday 15 July 2019.

Applications close on Friday 13 September 2019.

After applications close, we will review all applications and make a preliminary assessment against the criteria and guidelines (as outlined above). All eligible applications will progress to the evaluation stage for consideration, and a recommendation will be made for approval.

We will not support sponsorships that align with:

  • Delivery or replacement of core government services.
  • Donations for fundraising teams or individuals for charity.
  • Retrospective funding or budget deficits.
  • Political campaigns or groups seeking support for personal interests.
  • Events that discriminate adversely against any persons, organisations or groups.
  • Activities that have a co-sponsor supplying bottled water to either the event or the wider community.
  • Events which conflict with government policy or objectives.
  • Organisations supportive of or with visible links to tobacco, gaming, alcohol or drug-related issues.
  • Proposals that do not align with overall intent of the sponsorship objectives in our Communications and Engagement Strategy.
  • Requests that do not comply with the Information Privacy Act 2000.

We will advise in writing whether your application has been successful or not.

We expect that all applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by Friday 18 October 2019.

A Funding Agreement Form must be completed and returned prior to funding being released.

Applicants will receive a link to this form in the successful notification letter.

This agreement outlines the terms and conditions for a successful applicant to receive their payment.

Yes. Successful applicants must complete an Acquittal Form within three months of the project or activity’s completion.

We have opportunities for in-kind sponsorship including water bottles, and portable water fountains all year.
