Gippsland Regional Organics is an EPA-licensed waste treatment and composting facility owned by Gippsland Water.
Previously known as the Soil and Organic Recycling Facility (SORF), the facility is located on 350 hectares within our 8500+ hectare Dutson Downs property, not far east from Sale.
At Gippsland Regional Organics, we use multiple methods to turn waste into compost – reducing the amount of waste going to landfill. Each year we accept up to 250,000 tonnes of waste (including industrial and reportable priority waste) and manufacture approximately 60,000 tonnes of compost certified to Australian standards.
Our Gippsland Regional Organics team is made up of 22 people who work across management, technical, administrative and operational roles.
We treat
waste from our own wastewater treatment facilities as well as waste from
commercial customers. This includes milk and food wastes, oily water, industrial,
car, truck and machinery wash water, content from commercial kitchen grease
traps, poultry manure and animal effluent, green waste, and food organic and
garden organic waste.
We
manufacture multiple products of varying quality which may be available for
sale in bulk quantities. Our products include 10mm screened compost, 10mm
screened mature compost, 15mm screened compost, and 15mm screened mature
compost.
Our standard
AS4454 compliant compost product is the major component of the REVIVE Recycled
Compost product, owned by Rosedale-based agricultural services company Gibsons
Groundspread.
All four
of our compost products meet the strict requirements set by AS4454 - the
Australian Standard for Composts, Mulches and Soil Conditioners, with the
following data captured to demonstrate compliance:
Every batch we produce is also independently tested by National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accredited laboratories.
