Tell us how you use Hazel Creek

What we’re doing

Right now, we’re planning for the future. As Warragul grows, there's more demand for our services. We know that we’ll need to increase the capacity of Warragul's wastewater treatment plant to meet the community’s needs. More people using showers, sinks, toilets and washing machines creates more wastewater for us to treat.

Wastewater from Warragul’s homes and businesses is treated to a high standard to ensure its safe and meets strict requirements set by Victoria’s Environment Protection Authority (EPA). The treated wastewater is then returned to the environment via Hazel Creek in Warragul.

Understanding how you enjoy the creek helps us plan for an upgrade that helps our community and environment thrive, including the local wildlife we love to see in local waterways.

Why we need you

We reached out to learn what the waterway means to our community and discover how you use the creek. Thank you to everyone who responded to our letter, visited us at the Warragul Farmer’s Market or completed our survey. We had a great response and really appreciate all of the insights you shared.

We also held a workshop with other Gippsland agencies, including Environmental Protection Agency, DEECA, Baw Baw Shire Council, West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority and Southern Rural Water.

This feedback will help inform the next stage of the project.
