Water meters can only be removed from the property by Gippsland Water. Removing a water meter without prior consent is an offence under the Water Act 1989.
Water service tappings must be capped or removed from the water main by Gippsland Water.
Applicants wanting to remove tappings above 50mm (including private fire services) will be required to enter into a Minor Works Agreement with Gippsland Water. (hyper link to MWA process/accredited design consultants/pipelayers)
When application is made, Gippsland Water will determine whether a quote will be required for the extra work required which could include the tapping being under a roadway or concrete, located at a rural property, works require traffic management or require council permits.
Disconnection of sanitary drain
A PIC consent number is required for the nominated plumber to undertake below ground drainage works. A plan of the capped sanitary drain is required to be submitted upon completion of works by the plumber.
Wastewater availability connected charges will remain active on the customer’s account until Gippsland Water receives the ‘As Constructed Field Note’ plan detailing the capping of the sewer service. Upon receipt of this plan Gippsland Water will apply wastewater availability non-connected charges.
Termination of wastewater connection point
Sewer connection points can only be terminated by a Gippsland Water Accredited Pipe Layer.
A
field note and photo evidence of the terminated sewer point is required to be
submitted upon completion of the works by the accredited pipelayer.
Wastewater

until Gippsland Water receives the field note and photo detailing the
termination of the sewer point. Upon receipt of this plan Gippsland Water will update
the wastewater availability non-connected charges.
