Buckley's Hill upgrades strengthen resilience of water supply

Gippsland Water has upgraded the Buckley’s Hill raw water basin in Morwell, helping maintain supply for local industry and strengthening emergency options for the community.  

The basin supplies water for the energy sector but can also provide water to the Morwell water treatment plant during emergencies, helping supply customers if the service is disrupted. 

The project renewed key infrastructure, including repairs to the inlet structure, refurbishment of the original isolation valve and recoating the internal pipeline and interconnection structure.  

Managing director Sarah Cumming said the recently completed works would help support reliability of the state’s energy supply.  

“Our raw water infrastructure is unique across the state,” Ms Cumming said.  

“As the state’s major industrial water and wastewater service provider, we have a responsibility to maintain critical infrastructure and ensure major industries can rely on us.   

“The upgraded basin also provides another source of water for residential customers during emergencies, strengthening our ability to respond if normal supply is disrupted.”
