Young tennis stars put portable fountains to use

Gippsland Water’s portable drinking fountains have been a hit at this week’s AGL Loy Yang Traralgon International. 

The fountains have been helping players and spectators stay hydrated, while promoting the benefits of drinking tap water.  

Acting managing director Chris Wood said providing access to free drinking water in public spaces was one of the many ways Gippsland Water is involved in the community.  

“Our customers have told us they want us to be involved in the community and have a presence at local events,” Mr Wood said.  

“We work hard to be a trusted community partner and it's important we support local groups like the Traralgon Tennis Association. 

"By providing free and easy access to drinking water, we’re helping the community make a healthy choice at a major local event."  

Traralgon Tennis Association manager Susie Grumley said the fountains were a welcome addition for the tournament. 

“It’s important for players to stay hydrated, especially during the summer heat,” Ms Grumley said.  

“People prefer to use their own drink bottles, rather than having to spend money again and again. 

“Gippsland Water is an amazing support to our club, they do so all year-round, and we’re very grateful for that.” 

Mr Wood said the Drink Gippy Tap initiative also supports environmental sustainability. 

“By choosing to reuse, you are choosing to protect our environment by reducing plastic waste,” Mr Wood said.   

“Less than 20 per cent of plastic gets recycled in Australia, and it can remain in the environment for thousands of years.”
