Gippsland Water Board Chair Tom Mollenkopf AO has been recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Australian Water Awards, acknowledging his decades-long contribution to the sector.

The award was presented at the Australian Water Association’s President’s Dinner in Brisbane earlier this week.

Mr Mollenkopf said he was honoured to receive the recognition and acknowledgment of his contributions to the water sector.

“I was overwhelmed to receive this award from my peers – but maybe a little concerned about imposter syndrome,” Mr Mollenkopf said.

“First, because I was awarded for doing things that have been so rewarding and enjoyable. And second, because I’m rather hoping that this isn’t a full stop in my life in water.

“I look forward to continuing my professional journey and continuing to confront our many challenges.”

Mr Mollenkopf, who is widely regarded as a respected leader in the Australian water industry, has served as Gippsland Water Board Chair since October 2023.

His experience has guided the organisation’s strategic direction, with a strong focus on safety, governance and long-term planning.

The Australian Water Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award recognises those who demonstrate industry leadership, innovation, mentorship, and an enduring commitment to advancing sustainable water management in Australia.
