Planning for the future

There are long term challenges in planning for the future. These include:

  • Land management
  • Climate variability
  • Population growth
  • Carbon emissions

We monitor water levels and trends daily and use the latest environmental, social and demographic information to prepare a long term estimate for the demand and availability of water. Our expectations for the next 50 years are outlined in our Urban Water Strategy.

Our Annual Water Outlook draws on current storage levels and water resource modelling to forecast supply security for the year ahead.

We have developed a number of strategic environmental goals and actions for our operations. Key goals include:

  • To improve our knowledge of the biodiversity and ecological management processes on our land
  • To recover threatened species and ecosystems – appropriately manage significant natural assets, species and ecosystems
  • To maximise the use of our land for multiple functions
  • To increase business efficiency while increasing environmental performance
  • To deliver sustainable products to our customers for present and future generations
