Customers reminded to have an alternate water supply as bushfire season approaches

Fire Danger Period arrives
Keeping an alternate water source is recommended with the Fire Danger Period coming into effect in parts of the Gippsland Water service area.

Gippsland Water is reminding customers to keep an alternate water source ready as the Fire Danger Period comes into effect in parts of Gippsland.

During a bushfire, water infrastructure can come under significant pressure and may be damaged by fire or other emergency impacts.

Reticulated water systems are not designed for firefighting efforts and a significant increase in demand can affect supply.

Alternate sources of water can include water tanks, dams, swimming pools, wheelie bins or 200-litre drums.

It is also recommended to store at least three litres of fresh drinking water per person for up to three days.

If water or wastewater services are disrupted during an event, Gippsland Water will endeavour to keep affected customers updated via SMS, social media channels and the website.
