Enhancing the natural beauty at Moondarra Reservoir

Gippsland Water has constructed garden beds and a new pathway at Moondarra Reservoir’s picnic area. 

The additional 30 metres of pathway creates a continuous link for visitors, connecting the gathering place, Cecil Inn and the Boomerang viewing platform. 

Gippsland Water managing director Sarah Cumming said the project encourages greater recreational use at Moondarra Reservoir. 

“As one of the largest land managers in the region, we have an important role to play in providing recreational access to some of our facilities,” Ms Cumming said. 

“This project in particular helps create a welcoming and free-flowing space for people to enjoy many activities, while also working with diverse community groups.” 

The project also included the construction of two garden beds at the Boomerang viewing platform, which will have native species planted, grown from seed collected in the surrounding area. 

Signage will accompany the garden beds, highlighting the cultural significance and benefits of these local native species. 

The additions will further enhance the natural character of the site, while incorporating local native flora and Aboriginal cultural information into the visitor experience. 

The improved accessibility makes it easier for visitors to enjoy the reservoir, with the picnic area featuring barbecues, tables, toilets and viewpoints. 

The project was designed and delivered in collaboration with two Gippsland-based, Aboriginal-owned businesses.
