Free water flows at popular community venues in Sale

Locals and visitors to Sale’s recreation facilities now have improved access to free drinking water. 

New drinking fountains have been installed at Aqua Energy Leisure Centre, Port of Sale and Gippsland Regional Sports Complex. 

Gippsland Water managing director Sarah Cumming said the organisation had been working closely with Wellington Shire Council for the last five years to make free drinking water more accessible. 

“Together we’ve installed 24 drinking fountains across Wellington Shire, giving more people access to free drinking water when they’re out and about,” Ms Cumming said.

“This partnership has seen us deliver drinking water in the places people use most, from sport and recreation through to arts and community spaces.” 

Wellington Shire Council mayor Cindy Madeley said the venues are among the busiest community facilities in the municipality, welcoming thousands of visitors each year. 

“Providing free drinking water will help people stay hydrated while encouraging the use of reusable bottles instead of relying on single-use plastics,” Cr Madeley said. 

“We value our strong partnership with Gippsland Water and appreciate their support in helping to identify locations where these drinking fountains will have the greatest benefit for our community.”

Gippsland Water has donated more than 80 drinking fountains across its service area in the last 13 years.
