Gippsland Water prepared for drier spring conditions

Gippsland Water's storage levels remain strong heading into spring, despite forecasts of below-average rainfall over the next three months.  

Managing director Sarah Cumming said the organisation's water supply systems were well placed to continue meeting customer demand through spring and beyond.  

"Strong storage levels following recent rainfall, along with ongoing investment in infrastructure and maintenance, mean our systems are well placed to continue supplying customers," Ms Cumming said. 

"We've strengthened the resilience of our water supply network over many years through careful planning and targeted improvements across the region. 

"While a drier spring is forecast, we are not anticipating any supply shortages and will continue to monitor conditions closely over the months ahead."  

The outlook follows a drier-than-average winter across much of Gippsland Water's service area and forecasts of below-average rainfall during spring.  

Permanent water saving rules remain in place across Victoria all year round. Customers are encouraged to: 
- use a trigger nozzle on hand-held hoses 
- water gardens with a sprinkler only between 6pm and 10am 
- use a hand-held hose, watering can or bucket at any time 
- avoid using water to clean hard surfaces such as driveways and paths 
- ensure fountains and water features use recirculated water.
