Renewing the pipes that keep Gippsland flowing

Gippsland Water has invested $3.4 million in the last 12 months to renew ageing water and sewer assets across its service area. 

The works form part of the organisation’s five-year renewal program focused on improving system reliability by replacing and relining water and sewer pipelines.  

Managing director Sarah Cumming said the program supported reliable services while upgrading for future demand. 

“We’re continually renewing our pipes to meet the needs of growing communities,” Ms Cumming said. 

“This includes monitoring the condition of 2,300 kilometres of water mains and 1,900 kilometres of sewer mains across our service area to inform us where future upgrades are required.” 

Throughout the program, Gippsland Water replaced almost 3.9 kilometres of water mains, renewing pipelines to customers across Trafalgar, Yallourn North, Moe, Morwell, Traralgon and Sale.  

A further 316 customers in Warragul and Traralgon will benefit from 6.2 kilometres of sewer mains that were relined.
