Stage 2 water restrictions are necessary in Briagolong as the Wa De Lock underground aquifer which supplies the town is at record low levels due to the current drought.
A summary of water restrictions appears below. Detailed water restrictions and exemptions can be found in the Water Restriction By-law (see link below).
During restrictions, water can be used at any time for human health requirements, stock and animal health requirements, fire fighting, and the safety (not cleaning) of vehicles and equipment.
Water restrictions have an immediate benefit in helping to preserve the town’s water supplies. They constrain how our customers can use water and generally only apply to outdoor water use.
A range of other actions to ensure water supply to Briagolong township are being investigated.
We may cart water to the Briagolong water treatment plant as a quick but limited measure to top up town supplies. This would only occur in conjunction with higher level restrictions.
Depending on water quality, availability and the infrastructure required, it may be possible to access water from other sources on a temporary basis.
Note: 'Alternate day' means in the case of a property with an odd number street number, each odd number day of the month. In the case of a property with an even street number, or a property with no street number, each even number day of the month. The 31st of each month and 29th of February are considered 'alternate days' for all properties.
