Free drinking water flows at Latrobe City recreation reserves
New permanent public drinking fountains have been installed at Harold Preston Reserve in Traralgon and Yinnar Recreation Reserve, improving access to free drinking water for locals at the popular community spaces.
The new fountains are part of an ongoing partnership between Gippsland Water and Latrobe City Council to increase the availability of free drinking water in public spaces across the region.
Gippsland Water managing director Sarah Cumming said making free drinking water readily available in parks and reserves supports healthier choices when people are spending time outdoors.
“Something as simple as access to drinking water can make a real difference when people are out and about, enjoying our local recreation spaces,” Ms Cumming said.
“These fountains make it easier for locals to stay hydrated, refill their bottles and reduce reliance on single‑use plastic.”
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, said the new drinking fountains are a simple but important way to support a healthy and active community.
“Whether you’re walking the dog, watching the kids play sport or enjoying time with family, access to drinking water helps everyone use these reserves safely and comfortably,” the Mayor said.
“We thank Gippsland Water for partnering with us to improve how people experience these public spaces.”
The installations also contribute to a growing network of community drinking water refill points across Gippsland, supporting active lifestyles and helping reduce reliance on single‑use plastic bottles.
