Gippsland Water backs next generation through internship program
Applications for Gippsland Water’s Summer Internship Program are now open, giving undergraduate students the opportunity to gain paid hands-on experience in their chosen field.
The 12-week program will run from November 2026 to February 2027, with students working across a range of disciplines in a practical, professional environment.
Managing director Sarah Cumming said the long-running program plays an important role in building local capability, while creating careers for the future.
“Interns contribute meaningful work that delivers for our region now and in the future, using their academic studies for real-world work while making a difference,” Ms Cumming said.
"The program provides great career development pathways for young people in our region.
"Around 80% of interns also continue to work with us after or enrol into our graduate program.”
Interns can gain experience in the following fields:
- Engineering: civil, environmental, mechanical, process or electrical engineering, collaborating on minor capital projects and developing an understanding of challenges such as risk assessments, investigations, budgeting and planning.
- Science: environmental, natural resource management, climate, sustainability, ecology and botany, and geographical information systems science, while contributing to catchment management planning – targeting those with low adaptive capability to increase quality native vegetation.
- Information Technology: artificial intelligence, and how it can support strategic analysis, knowledge management and operational efficiency.
- Business and Commerce: help map strategies and learn how they align to the organisation’s priorities, requirements, and outcomes.
Students may be able to receive academic credits for their participation, depending on course requirements.
