Upgrade underway to boost Traralgon’s wastewater reliability

Gippsland Water has recently begun critical sewer pump station upgrade works at Peterkin Street in Traralgon.
Acting managing director Nic Moss said the $550,000 upgrade is part of the organisation’s long-term investment in maintaining essential wastewater infrastructure for the growing community.
“These works include replacing end-of-life pipes and components to enable the pump station to continue to perform reliably for years to come,” Mr Moss said.
“Upgrading this pump station ensures we can continue to deliver a safe and dependable wastewater service for Traralgon. By replacing ageing infrastructure now, we reduce the risk of future service interruptions.”
Peterkin Street sewer pump station is the largest pump station within the Traralgon sewage network, servicing over 5,200 households and transferring approximately 1.8 million litres of wastewater to the Gippsland Water Factory every day.
The upgrade follows routine inspections, which revealed corrosion in sections of the pipework, as well as build-up of fats and solids entering the system.
“We’d like to reassure residents that we don’t anticipate any interruptions to wastewater services as a result of these works,” Mr Moss said.
The pump station upgrade is due to be completed by the end of September.
